Belle for Moony006

Description

A request from :iconmoony006:, her character, Bella, as a Sonic-style character. Due to her overtly dual nature, I chose a two-tailed fox that I might have otherwise avoided, but it worked really well for this. My reference can be found here. [link]

My third digital piece! And look, I discovered how to make purty stuff. :3 I wanted to make her outline glow, but couldn't figure out how to do it without it looking awful.

Okay, since I'm new to this, I always appreciate help from people who know what they're doing. Here's the advice I applied from my first two pieces.
:iconzip139: Suggested using gradients before the usual shading, so I tried it on the fur and boots.
:icongeneralinquiry: Greater contrast between shadows and base color, avoidance of white to highlight (except where there was black, then I felt it was appropriate.)
:iconswish42: Highlights on separate layers. (I actually forgot about this except for eyes and the throat clasp ._.)
:iconphoneix-faerie: More detail in the hair. (Less a specifically digital crit, but I kept it in mind. :3 )

Thanks so much guys, seriously.

Crit is appreciated, be sure to drop processes and tool names so I can figure it out what the hell you're talking about.

Your technique has improved by leaps and bounds in just three deviations. I can tell that you are getting more confident with the software and with using the tablet. considering that your previous work was done with markers and pen and ink I can see a transfer of the skills and technique you used in this deviation. Also your eagerness to learn new techniques or how to get a certain look is encouraging as you seek out advice from other deviants more comfortable with the digital medium.

The art work itself is what I would consider to be a "pin up" the character is suspended in "space" yet you clearly define a background and use gradiants and "camera flares" to indicate a starry space like environment. I like how you kept the color scheme very simple. All the hues complement each other and this adds to the overall impact of the work. Her expression, body language (pose) strikes me as a character filled with awe and wonder at her powers or the world around her.

Your shading is gorgeous and v. tight, and I love the subtle tones you used on her tail to indicate the fluffyness, (this shows up more on the white tail than black) likewise the shading on the white of her hair seems to be better than the highlights on her black hair. The only other aspect I can think of, is doing something more with making her look more etherial. Either do a seperate layer behind her between her and the b/g and do a glow, then gaussen blur it and play around with the opaqueness of the layer to get the right tone is up to you. Also, try and break away from the typical "pin up" pose and try going for one that has a bit more impact. Such as a foreshortening or draw her from a different view. Worms eye or birds eye for example.
